Features Google Keep is a note-taking app that lets you capture and organize your thoughts, ideas, and to-dos.
Pros Easy to use, syncs across devices, offers a variety of features.
Cons Lacks some advanced features found in other note-taking apps, can be slow at times.

Comments and Reviews from users:

Maverick Loneshark: “I like all of the features that Keep comes with but hate one thing a lot: forced auto sync and a lack of any private mode. Sometimes you just want to have a scratchpad or a quick list and do NOT want it to be backed up or shared with anyone. We have so much of our lives accessible to other people that it is disgusting. I want an offline-only version of Keep where all my notes only exist on my physical device and nothing can be accessed remotely or forcibly backed up to some server.” – 3/5 in Play Store

David M. Bishop: “S23 Ultra. It needs update on the search menu. The problem is that we have a lot of data in Google keep. Our notes are lengthy. If I wanted to search for a particular word to find it in one of my notes, it only locates the note. It doesn't locate where it's at within the note. I would have assumed that the search menu would populate an arrow up/down that would allow you to quick reference where the searched term is located inside of the note even if it's located in multiple spots of the note” – 3/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

Liz Wilber: “Since I wrote my original review in 2017, I have continued to use and rely on the app, but I still have my frustrations. Often, I will type a to do before selecting the time, but the time buttons are so small that I will accidentally hit outside of them, and my to do disappears, meaning I have to retype it again. Also, the pop-ups and list don't sync. So, if I delete a to do on the list in the app, the pop-up remains. I'd also like to be able to remove a batch of to dos at once. The features outweigh the frustrations for me with this app, and I do depend on it daily. I've been using this app for years and loved it... until the last couple of weeks. It has stopped notifying me when a task is due. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, and it works for one day and then stops again. I need an app that notifies me. I am frustrated because I have depended upon and used this app for years without issue, and I have quite the list made!” – 3/5 in Play Store

Marti K.: “I like this app. I use it a lot. Edit again: the issue I mentioned months ago is still broken. I sent reports to the company, vid, pictures. They got back to me, but they haven't fixed the issue. They broke things with updates. When entering my sub list, my phone switched to landscape mode for a second. When turned back to portrait, my list was gone. Please fix this!” – 4/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

Annesley Helmstetter: “*LIKES* - I do still enjoy being able to check all the different weekly/monthly store ads, etc. all in same spot. It is extremely helpful for those of us who don't receive the weekly newspapers/ads, etc. via snail-mail. They're often not recieved on time.. If it comes at all! *DISLIKES* - I DON'T like when it freezes/shuts down and sometimes won't even open for me. I've even had to uninstall/reinstall it a few times to make it work! :-( Always up for new updates! Thanks for listening!” – 4/5 in Play Store

Ankit Patel: “Definitely enjoy using this app, esp around black Friday. Taking away one star because when you click on notifications they send you, it loads the app, but never gets past the logo page. It's forever stuck on that page until you close out of the app and restart it like normal. Plus, you've lost the ability to go see the thing they just sent you a notification.” – 4/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

Rebekah McMahan: “I use this app for everything! From grocery lists (separate lists for different stores), to hardware needs, to what I need to do that day and who I need to call... It's so versatile 😊 I tried the option of putting the prices in, but wasn't thrilled with it. Only because the prices seemed to change at the stores. I recommend it! It helps be organized in just one app.” – 4/5 in Play Store

Bonnie Seals: “I used Out of Milk until the new owners made it unusable. This is a good substitute. It has all the features I needed, like categorizing items, allowing the categories to be ordered like my regular store's layout, and multiple lists. Recently it added the ability to add pictures of items, which is really helpful when my husband shows me something of his he wants me to buy.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Cons May require a learning curve, Occasional syncing issues reported by users, Limited recipe integration.

Comments and Reviews from users:

A Google user: “Overall a pretty solid app, my wife and I have been using it for years now. I wish they added more icons and categories, but still it syncs really easily across accounts, easy to add and remove items, overall pretty much what it should be. I do hope they get it to work with various assistants line Alexa and OK Google, maybe it does and I just haven't figured it out, but that's just about the last piece of the puzzle to get this to be the perfect app.” – 5/5 in Play Store

A Google user: “It's a few features and some polish away from being a good shopping list app, but they are critical features. At the top of my list (lolz) is the ability to require more than a single tap to clear items from your list. It's way too easy to accidentally touch something and then forget to buy it because it was marked complete. Next, you can add pictures of items but it won't show the full picture. Why?? Finally, the app is pretty generic with its item tiles and the fine print is too small.” – 2/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

Mary Wutzke: “Makes shopping so much easier! I used to always forget my written list but almost never forget my phone. Plus I can share my list with others to shop for me. I like that I can categorize the foods I need to buy. So convenient also because it saves the items you use so you don't have to type them in all the time. I like that you can track your pantry items. Unfortunately, I need to become more organized to use it more effectively. This is a GREAT app!” – 5/5 in Play Store

M. B.: “Not bad for solo shopping lists. When sharing, synchronization is horrendous. Many times, the lists do not update when the other user makes changes. Layout and GUI are nice. Able to view many items at once, no unnecessary graphics. Manage Categories is useful. Room for improvement. App needs an undo button. If accidently check item when grabbing the phone (and do not know what was touched), there is no way to see what was checked in error. Have moved on to another shopping app.” – 2/5 in Play Store

I accidentally deleted the app and lost all my tasks. Nothing super important, but just a bummer that I messed up. Don't be like me, and just get the paid version 😅 still highly recommend!” – 5/5 in Play Store

Not intimidating and works well with other apps. Would still give 5 stars. Simple, attractive, efficient. Has just what I want without ALL (but some of) the bells, whistles & complications. Cons May require a premium subscription for full functionality, occasional syncing issues, limited customization options.

Comments and Reviews from users:

A Google user: “Very good communications platform for groups/families. It definitely has a lot of potential! I've noticed the mapping/location notifications & map updates appear to be very intermittent; sometimes I get family arrivals/departures, sometimes I don't, and the same for them with mine. And when we do get them, it's often 20-40 minutes after the fact. While the app is being updated with purpose, the website seems to be languishing; not seeing some of the same functionality/tweaking there (not able to see comments on tasks, for example.) Also, when messaging back and forth, the replies don't just get delivered as they would a text message; you have to click the message button (on the website at least) to call the server to push the replies out. Small annoyance, but worth a mention. I'd like to a files section with some Google Drive/DropBox type integration for accessing important files, and the ability to create conversation threads (like tasks) that can be maintained and archived when finished, for those intermittent but ongoing discussions about the same subjects that can occur in groups/families from time to time (vacation planning, budgeting plans, etc.)” – 4/5 in Play Store

Katie House: “Better than all other similar apps I've tried in helping me stay organized, but does have a few minor performance issues. Some examples: When removing a note for an item in a list, it does not actually remove it until I back out/go back in to perform the action multiple times. When editing list item names/notes, the keyboard jumps to the beginning, often after starting to type. It struggles to open list items with multiple comments + sometimes crashes, especially if the comments contain links.” – 4/5 in Play Store

Pros Easy to use, collaborative, and helps streamline grocery shopping.
Cons May not have all the features of some more complex grocery list apps, and can be slow at times.

Comments and Reviews from users:

A Google user: “Works well. I like it enough that I paid for it. Widgets are nice, and it syncs with multiple devices which was a must for me. One feature missing is the ability to add an item to multiple lists, and have that item crossed off all lists simultaneously. Grocery King was able to do that, but it is no longer supported and sync doesn't work, which is why I chose this one. Also needs Samsung Gear support.” – 4/5 in Play Store

A Google user: “The app does the job. The list is in the cloud, so I can access it from my laptop at home, my desktop at work. or my phone when i'm in the store. It let me set up multiple sub-lists and move items from one to another. so that I can shift 'frozen mixed vegetables' (for example) from 'recurring' to 'current needs' and back without having to retype it each time. The phone interface is sometimes a bit clunky, though.” – 4/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

A Google user: “I like this app a lot. A LOT! It makes my list so much easier to do. I type in what item I want (example: bananas), then I can show the sale price and amount. i.e., 2 lbs. .08/lb. I wouldn't hand write all that on my usual grocery list. The Shopping List app makes it really easy. The app has 9 lists, so say goodbye to mixing grocery lists with items you need from the pharmacy. Just make a separate list which you can name anything you want. It's quick, it's easy, and that makes it fun!” – 5/5 in Play Store

Helen Walsh: “Easy to move items around on your list . crosses them off as needed, but moves them to the bottom of the list which gets them out of the way. When you want them added back, just touch the item and it back up on top again. Also can make lists for each store too. I have had other lists that aren't easy to manipulate. There are ads ever so often when you first open the app up, but so far they haven't annoyed me too much and I am easily annoyed about ads and will uninstall an app.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Cons Limited customization options, occasional syncing issues, may not have all the features of more advanced list-making apps.

Comments and Reviews from users:

A Google user: “For the most part, like using app but seems better suited to in-store shopping as opposed to online. I use online grocery service and only shop once every 6 to 8 weeks. Therefore, I have list going the entire time, items are added and removed frequently. Prices change. Would be nice to be able to date an entry, and to have the option of adding a Sticky Note for the entire list. Would like icon to denote Sale items, make them stand out.” – 4/5 in Play Store

Carole T: “No more bits of paper getting lost. I can make my list and track my spending. Allows you to determine weight and tax rates, add a coupon, and notes on an item (like if it's on sale). If you want, you can customize the picture and the department. This has made shopping less of a hassle. VERY versatile and easy to use!” – 5/5 in Play Store

Abigail St. Louis: “This app is amazing! The meals are healthy, balanced and tasty. I love that if there is a week I just don't know what to cook the app will build a meal plan for me. I love the grocery list feature telling me exactly what to buy. I waste less food and I know better what ingredients I have or need to use in my kitchen. My favorite feature is clicking an item on the grocery list, tells me ideas for substitutions. This is the feature I never knew I needed!” – 5/5 in Play Store

Vanessa Leite: “I am completely unable to meal plan myself. This app has made it so easy with good features at a very reasonable subscription price, like the auto generated shopping list that can be transferred directly to an online shopping cart of my choice. I also like the scheduling feature that lets me plan all my meals as far in advance as I like. That is very helpful for people with ADHD. A Google user: “EDIT: The developer has answered my question. It turns out the functionality I wanted was there and I just hadn't found it. Updating my rating to 5 stars to reflect both the quality of the app and the responsiveness of the developer. Simple and easy to use, but lately checked off items seem to be vanishing from my list. I like to keep all items in the "recently checked off" area, especially if I only buy them occasionally because it helps me remember to look and see if I need to get more when I'm making my list. Recently I've noticed that these rarely purchased items disappear after a while. I suppose I could be accidentally deleting these things, but I never notice it happen with the stuff I buy regularly, so that seems unlikely I would like to hear from the developer whether this is a bug or a feature, and if there's any way to disable it so I never lose items.” – 5/5 in Play Store

A Google user: “This is very nearly the perfect grocery list app. PROS. The custom categories, color coding, and even the ability to determine which categories appear where on the list, (which is helpful for arranging a list based on your typical route through your regular grocery store). CONS: There needs to be an easier way to add items with numbers in their name. I'd really really love a widget of this app. It's the only reason this is a 4* and not a 5* product for me.” – 4/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

Sarah Sutton: “Best app I've found to provide recipes I can make with the things I have at home. It provides substitutions, and my favorite is that you can put diet restrictions and food sensitivities, as well as the cooking medium, and it takes all of those things into account. Since going vegan and finding out I was allergic to soy & gluten & dairy intolerant, I've really struggled with meals and recipes. This app has made it so easy to find things to make,so I don't feel like I have limited eating options.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Bethany Razo: “I paid for a subscription to access everything, and I'm very disappointed. The features are good ideas, but the interface is frustrating and clunky. It is so busy, searching for items or reading recipe directions is difficult. The recipe side is really lacking. Everything from storing recipes to listing the directions is just a little frustrating. For the pantry, scanning barcodes is great, but the shopping side is frustrating if you're adding additional items not from a recipe.” – 2/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

A Google user: “I got all the way through my pantry only to find out I can only manage a certain limit. When that limit has been hit, I have to buy premium or unlock the products. I was looking for an app that would make it easier to manage my food so I don't over buy. This is inconvenient considering I can't delete a certain product after using it. It also won't let you put a certain number of items. like canned goods for example. I can not put that I have multiple of this one thing. Deleting this app ☹” – 2/5 in Play Store

Jacob Aaron: “Why when I'm under the freezer section, hit the plus button, type in 'burger patties' and make an entry and hit add the only option seems to add it to pantry then i have to drag it over to freezer? Edit: thank you for the reply, I was getting frustrated but altho it's a lil clunky I like the app, a surprising number of products were scannable which is convenient. Weird pics pop up sometimes but I like that I can just take a pic of mine. Still needs work but giving it a second try” – 4/5 in Play Store
