Comments and Reviews from users:

Barry Green: “I used to use this app all the time while I was driving I let it read the book out to me. I used split screen on my tablet because the other half the screen would have my navigation this always work but something changed sometime ago. I started to look for older versions and install older versions I went all the way back to January of 2021. None of them would work no matter what settings I would change it just kept going to a black screen when I split” – 2/5 in Play Store

Best Of The Beasts: “Fairly user friendly and very convenient. The interface can be clunky or laggy sometimes, but once the book is going it's completely fine. Plus the fact that you can pick up at the same spot from a different device more than makes up for it. I've heard the pay to the authors is very inconsiderate when compared how much audible makes from each book, but that's something to do your own research on.” – 4/5 in Play Store

Notta Bott: “I really enjoy listening to books and podcasts while I commute and do chores. I really wish this app had a way to play post cast from episode 1-current. It always refreshes back to the newest episode and when I start a new pod, I want to start from day one. It is very frustrating to always have to go back and scroll for the next in the series. Also, there used to be a "play next" option and that has disappeared I am also disappointed in the amount of ads in the podcasts.” – 3/5 in Play Store

Pros Unlimited access to a vast library of audiobooks, ebooks, comics, and magazines for a low monthly fee.
Cons The selection of titles may not be as comprehensive as some other subscription services, and there is no offline listening option.

Comments and Reviews from users:

Nate: “Really solid app. Lots of selection to choose from and the app seems pretty stable. Easy to navigate as well. My only gripe is that I can't cast audio books to my Nest Mini. If they would add casting support, this would be the best app. Edit: Just read about the limits they have imposed from other reviewers, and I'm cancelling my subscription. I'll stick to Audible, they have good sales each month, and no one tells me what I can and can't read and listen to. What a shame.” – 3/5 in Play Store

Jenn Makseyn: “Forever crashing. It doesn't matter if I download, stream on wifi or with cell data the app crashes several times a day. And don't get your hopes up just because you added a book to your saved list they disappear without reason or notice. Browsing for titles is tedious because everything needs to be tapped multiple times before you can get to the synopsis.” – 3/5 in Play Store

Features Learn from the best nonfiction books with 10-minute summaries, key insights, and actionable takeaways in audio or text formats.
Pros Great for busy people who want to learn from books quickly, offers a wide variety of titles, and provides actionable insights.
Cons Summaries may not be as comprehensive as reading the full book, can be expensive for a subscription, and some users may find the summaries too short.

Comments and Reviews from users:

Gabe Krause: “No way to organize your library so any favorite summaries that you may have wanted to revisit gets lost in the clutter after a handful of content. In app Help & Support is pretty buggy and there's no way to report issues. So I doubt this app will improve much over time without them having a pulse on UX. There's even a rating system but you can't see any of the ratings you've given. This thing is so unpolished” – 2/5 in Play Store

Anastasiya Oliynyk: “The app is ok, but cost after the trial period is very high, and it's not obvious when you try it. Other apps send the reminder upfront that the trial period is about to expire, this way the user can make an informed choice about whether to extend it or not. In this case, with Headway there was no reminder. Instead, 50Є/3mths were blocked on my account. When I canceled it, they offered it for 14Є/year! Now it looks more like scam than a good user experience. Do not recommend.” – 2/5 in Play Store

Terry Caldwell: “I love the wealth of knowledge In the app. I love the audio reading option. I don't like how saving Blinks to 'playlists' works. it saves generally, and you have to go into your pool of saved blinks and manually add each one to a collection. I mainly listen to blinks while I'm doing work and can't touch my phone. it would be very nice if this feature was streamlined like most other platforms.” – 3/5 in Play Store

Basil Hayek: “Not a fan of the audio heavy approach. I don't want to listen -- ever -- I want to read. But now the blinks are the script of what a narrator would read and it's continuous scrolling vs discrete blinks. Not a fan of this change. EDIT: I know I can pause the audio. I shouldn't have to. It shouldn't default to playing. Let me turn audio off completely.” – 2/5 in Play Store

Pros Provides quick and accessible summaries of popular nonfiction books, saving users time and effort in their learning journey.
Cons May lack the depth and nuance of reading the full books, and some users may prefer a more immersive reading experience.

Comments and Reviews from users:

A Google user: “Not impressed yet. Interface hard to use. No search function when looking for a 12 minute book'. Additionally, when asked to enter a suggestion, they want you to enter a URL, however when using copy and paste is not doable. Very hard to use. If you just want suggestions sent to you from 12min, this user interface is good. If you have specific books in mind to listen to, you are going to be disappointed” – 2/5 in Play Store

A Google user: “I foolishly bought a lifetime subscription before trying it as it sounded like an amazing concept. Unfortunately, the catalog is fairly small and the summaries of books I've fully read are amateurish, missing key points or making me wonder if we even read the same book at times. There's also incredibly irritating "RATE THIS!" & "SHARE THIS!" prompts after every read, which you can't disable.” – 2/5 in Play Store

Pros Immersive listening experience, vast library of audiobooks, easy-to-use interface.
Cons Limited free content, subscription required for full access, occasional technical glitches.

Comments and Reviews from users:

Tiffany Leggette: “There are some moderately decent books on this site. The voice actors can suck the life out of a story though by putting the wrong voice actor with the wrong character after you've listened to the same person do the same voice for most of the story and then they switch up. It's also not so great that you're paying more to hear one book then it would cost you to actually buy a real book online or in a bookstore. Purchasing almost $40 worth of points every time you want to hear a book is crazy” – 2/5 in Play Store

Elizabeth Armstrong: “I enjoy the readers. It's almost like a radio drama with fairly decent voice acting. I am annoyed I have to spend approximately $15 each book. The app also shuts itself down for no reason in the middle of a story. Not frequently, just enough to be annoying and noticeable. I'd like to see more diverse stories. One can only enjoy so many billionaire or a/b/o stories.” – 3/5 in Play Store

Huawei P20 lite, techs couldn't understand how the phone crashed to point where it wouldn't even switch on no matter what they tried!” – 3/5 in Play Store

אוראל ציון: “Content is very broad. Narrative is excellent. And I really love how they summarize the main ideas first and then discussing them each in particular. Omap Carlisle: “This app is amazing. It’s the perfect blend of an audiobook, spark notes, and a podcast. I have already recommended it to a number of my friends and family. I work in a time intensive role and used to love reading and constant learning, specifically nonfiction. I’ve found audiobooks are great - but I don’t have much time or attention to dedicate (and sometimes I want to drive and workout in silence to decompress). Then podcasts have a lot of extra ‘fluff’ sometimes. bookeylist gets down to the points in a concise manner, just like our favorite spark notes growing up. I love walking away with new information and insights with only ~30 minutes spent. It’s definitely worth the price. The only downside is it doesn’t have an Apple Watch app version. I’d love to be able to download to my watch and listen while out for runs/walks without having to bring my phone.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Thomas Brett: “The only thing that I find distracting is that sometimes words have two different pronunciations based on whether a given part of speech is a noun or a verb. (e.g., record or perfect). Perhaps the voice of the AI voice of the reader doesn't comprehend the pronunciation(s) based on context; I hope that the technology will improve over time. Also in the case of some acronyms, it attempts the pronounce it as a word instead of saying the letters that make up the name of a diagnosis.” – 4/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

A Google user: “I love this app because it is probably one of the only summary apps that let's you change playback speed. However, I find that not all of the summaries are high quality. Sometimes the "summary" is just an intro to the book and after listening I feel like I haven't learned anything. Also, it would be great if there was a feature to show how long each summary is.” – 4/5 in Play Store

A Google user: “The app is really helpful for your daily life as it provides audiobook version of the books to listen on the go, video version if you're interested in the visuals and the summaries of the books so that you can get the gist of the book in a few minutes. I was lucky to have found the app while the lifetime access offer was there and believe me the full access is really worth it. I had some problems with the app so I contacted the developer and there was a quick reply and my problem was fixed.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Pros Access to summaries of best-selling non-fiction books; Time-saving way to learn new ideas and concepts.
Cons Summaries may not be as comprehensive as reading the full book; Subscription fee required for full access to all summaries.

Comments and Reviews from users:

Sunil Chhabra: “I have recently subscribed to Shortform. I also have subscriptions to other book summary applications. By comparison, I find that Shortform has by far the most detailed and comprehensive summaries both at an Overview level and Chapter by Chapter summaries. In this manner, I can actually read and discuss many more books by quickly understanding the main ideas in some of the more influential books in recent times. I also like the option of either reading or listening to many of the books. As an added bonus, the daily newsletters are very informative.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Nishanth Thomas: “The concept of Shortform is outstanding. Shortform's book summaries are far more comprehensive than other prominent companies that claim to summarize books. For instance, I have a subscription for both Shortform and Blinkist, and Shortform is far better because of their comprehensive book summaries (described below). I purchased both of these subscriptions during Thanksgiving. Shortform has a 1-page book summary with the main ideas of the book, followed by an introduction of the author and book, and then a detailed summary of each chapter of the book. Shortform also goes one step further and provides context and detailed overviews when the authors of the original book occasionally fail to provide practical way(s) to apply their concept or their concept is not clear. Additionally, Shorform also provides tangible and practical exercises to apply chapter principles in transformative ways (this helps ideas move from theoretical to actionable). I also love the fact that they usually portray the author's perspective accurately and sometimes points are reorganized for clarity. I have given 4/5 stars (it should be 3.5/5 but Google doesn't have that option and so it was rounded to 4) for 3 reasons (listed in decreasing order of importance): 1. The app needs work. The app sometimes doesn't open up, the audio of the book summary doesn't occasionally play or randomly pauses, etc. 2. The website needs a bit more work in terms of organizing the material and also more selections. However, Shortform is new to the game and their summaries are more comprehensive (which takes more time and effort per book). 3. There are occasional minor errors in summaries. These are very minor and do not take away from the overall outstanding nature of the summary. These errors seem to be because the summarizers make assumptions about the author, their work, or factual errors. For context, I found just one minor error in a book summary with several pages. Additionally, the news article (Shortform also summarizes news articles) seems to be selected randomly from just certain websites. However, overall, Shortform is awesome and I would subscribe to Shortform again.” – 4/5 in Play Store

Hlyan Htet Oo: “There are so many book summary apps out there and I love some of them, like Blinkist and Uptime. NBI is different. NBI's summaries, or Big Ideas, are written and narrated by the authors so you get the main points that the authors of the books want you to get.
