Pros Fun and interactive way to learn about music, Great for all ages, Variety of musical instruments and games to choose from
Cons Some users have reported that the app can be buggy at times, There are some in-app purchases that can add up if you're not careful.

Comments and Reviews from users:

A Google user: “My 2 yr old loves this app, I've had it for about a year now and they just keep expanding the games! There is so many cool educational minigames, and instruments for your child to interact with. It's WAY more than just music.... Yes there is ads and its annoying especially for a small child. BUT if you put your device on airplane mode before opening the app no ads pop-up!!! I'm sure the developers won't like that. But ads and small children don't mix. The idea is to distract the kids not have them handing you the phone upset every 2 mins” – 5/5 in Play Store

A Google user: “This app would be absolutely perfect for my toddler if only it had a lock screen option. He keeps closing it out by hitting the home or back buttons on accident, which means I can't use this app for car rides or in situations where I can't help him. Other than that disappoint, it has the best variety of games and sensory distractions for little ones that I have seen yet in an app! I paid for the ad removal which is well worth it. They just need to add a lock screen option and this would completely be a five star app!” – 4/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

A Google user: “I don't know if other piano apps are like this as well, but with this one there is a distinct delay between pressing the keys and hearing the sound. A delay that is even more noticable when you try and time your presses with the metronome just for all the sounds to not line up. is there an option to disable this delay? If so, where? If not, why? Don't think I'll be using this as long as that "issue" is there. Otherwise it'd be a great app.” – 3/5 in Play Store

A Google user: “Though the app has other features, I just use it to pick out the notes for my singing parts. It works for that purpose well, good "piano" sounds and key responsiveness. I sometimes "fat-finger" a wrong now due to the small keys, but there are only so many notes you can for on a small phone screen! You do need to back out of the keyboard function before you can jump over to another app. other than that, no glitches in a few months of use. Five stars.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

A Google user: “Hands down the best music-playing app. Easy to use, with the ability to create your own songs and contribute variations on musical pieces from classics to modern pop, this app goes above and beyond. It is even simple to learn actual piano techniques and music reading. Magic piano is vast in its musical scope and it attempts to do so much for one app, succeeding wonderfully.” – 5/5 in Play Store

A Google user: “I played the app a LOT in the past (like 5 years ago) and I recently redownloaded it. The ads and lack of Smoola are irritating, but not deal breaking. The thing I'm disappointed and annoyed about is the sensitivity. Every song I play (it happens more frequently in the medium and hard difficulties) it doesn't register my taps. Without fail, this happens at least twice per song, at least 4 notes in a row. It throws off the rhythm, my score, and sounds awful. It's so infuriating! Please fix this!!” – 3/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

Andy McEvoy: “This was great for getting into piano but the later lessons (essentials 3 and up) will just frustrate you. You can't easily go-to, slow down, or otherwise focus on the parts of lessons or songs that are giving you trouble. You can pause, but then you only see part of what you need to practice. Printing out lessons would be a huge help. 3 stars because it got me into piano but it's leaving me frustrated that it doesn't facilitate focusing and working on the harder elements of later lessons.” – 3/5 in Play Store

P H: “I want to love this app, but I'm on the fence between love and hate. Pro: I can use this app with or without a MIDI cord connection, and it will listen and recognize notes played. Con: Without the MIDI cord, note recognition is only about 85% accurate, even in a quiet room. This is fine for the first few lessons, but later, it doesn't recognize enough notes being played. Con: This app does not recognize Bluetooth MIDI connections, so I had to buy a cord and adapter instead. Also, speed i” – 4/5 in Play Store

Shlamidur: “After doing the free part where they give you the very basics, I thought that this would show me how to do things like how to hold a guitar the right way, or how to use your fingers on the strings or how to properly pluck the strings. But all I got when I spent 100 bucks was just some bad songs that I end up having to repeat for 3 hours on slow mode on practice just because I can't get my fingers on the strings in time because you get no time or teaching on how to get to strings quick enough.” – 2/5 in Play Store

Karan Suthar: “Used to love the app, practised daily! Since recent update, there is no way to turn off learn new on start of app. Pushing to further train to next level chords while i can't play previous chords properly. I didnt go ahead as i was selectively practising chords to get better with the help of your app. Either adjust your learn feature to stay in same level till they completely graduate that or create a flag in settings which can turn off the learn feature.” – 3/5 in Play Store

Pros Engaging and interactive, makes learning the piano fun, easy to use.
Cons Can be repetitive at times, requires a piano or keyboard to use.

Comments and Reviews from users:

A Google user: “absolutely love this app. it's extremely fun to learn songs with. It would be even better if there were more modern songs to play. I found midi files to download with Musescore but that cost more money for the annual subscription. I enjoy the level of control with the tempo, looping difficult parts and separating hands. being able to add finger numbers as hints is very helpful. As a complete beginner I've made great progress in just a short period of time. I highly recommend this app.” – 4/5 in Play Store

A Google user: “Is just a port of the Desktop version. All of the shortcuts are for a computer keyboard, and the progress bar is broken. If you have measure lines on, you can't see any in-song settings and have to tap randomly around the screen and hope you hit the toggle switch. Even then, you can't do much. With sheet music, the falling notes are covered. In general, a bad app. But it is synthesia, just the computer version.” – 3/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

A Google user: “Well executed, but has some issues. For one, even though my internet is working perfectly it keeps saying that it doesn't have internet connection and then I have to click try again. This interrupts whatever I'm doing which makes me make mistakes. For two, it's having a hard time hearing my keyboard, it keeps thinking I'm pressing the wrong notes when I'm doing everything right because it can't hear well. I'm just frustrated cause I want it to work well.” – 3/5 in Play Store

A Google user: “The virtual piano is a bit small and sometimes I hit the wrong keys. Sometimes the song-playing parts crash and only show a white screen. These problems are no big deal & I can easily solve them, though. I also love how you DON'T have to pay just to learn to do more advanced things compared to simply piano. I'm really upset about how the users of Simply Piano don't know they're getting ripped off & how they blew too much money on ads. In short, this app rocks! Let's keep it up! 😃👍” – 5/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

Alex Vysotsky: “5/19/2023: this app has been very glitchy.. it will automatically close itself, back out of sheet music, and the volume will alter itself with no explanation.. if you're going to use musescore, I recommend sticking to the browser version. 3/14/2024: Finally!! Musescore 4 support!! The new score viewer is great, no complaints so far. My only issue has been subscription offers popping up when I already pay yearly. Otherwise, great improvement. 3/28/2024: Latest update broke Musescore 4 support” – 2/5 in Play Store

Rebecca Jones: “While it's great that you have access to so many scores with no ads, the app barely works. It's super slow and will have errors making it unusable for hours. 80% of the time it won't even register what you type into the search bar, even if the score exists on the app. Searching doesn't show by relevance. Its super irritating to find new music. The interface is not user friendly. Many scores aren't available in my country. Only reason I'm using it is because there's no better alternative.” – 3/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

A Google user: “Great and helpful learning tool for so many musical aspects, tried many other apps like this, but none that I could find have so many different elements of music in one. Plus like other app that have awesome features this one won't crash all the time; in fact Perfect Ear has never crashed on me. With that said some apps might have different features this one doesn't have (or haven't found the features yet) like vocal range finder; but over all, 6 stars if I were rating this to other apps” – 5/5 in Play Store

A Google user: “Didn't realize I didn't correct my review. Didn't realize you could wait before starting the rhythm exercises at first, they had seemed to start abruptly but that was my own mistake. This is by far one of the best, most comprehensive music apps on the Play Store and I'd recommend it to anyone trying to master basic to intermediate theory. I very rarely buy anything on the Play Store, but I bought the full package for this.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Cons Can be expensive, requires a subscription, some users report technical issues

Comments and Reviews from users:

A Google user: “it's a good app and has a ton of potential, however it doesn't show all of my progress as completely. Also it listens and registers well when I play with my right hand but when I play with my left on the opposite side of the keyboard it doesnt register and lags...making learning difficult and frustrating. Has a good selection of songs to play with. but doesn't focus as much on learning the notes which could be difficult for beginners.” – 3/5 in Play Store

A Google user: “The lessons are broken into parts, and they can be repeat as many times as needed to learn the part. I tried to jump straight to a free song, which was overwhelming, but the features I got to play around with are amazing! The features that I found were hand selection of focusing on hand or right or left and speed of play. Both seems like a game changer, but I'm just a newbie.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

Jose Angel Pulido: “An amazing app to help you learn the piano. Aside from similar apps, it did a great job picking up whatever note was played. I also like the selection of songs available from their built in songbook. Most songs feature a list of different versions of the song from the melody (which is the least difficult) to a full-blown solo (the most difficult).” – 5/5 in Play Store

David Isaacson: “Yousician is a great way to learn an instrument... but the piano lessons need some polishing (especially compared to the guitar, which is amazingly thorough). In the first couple of levels, lots of bits are missing. Some of them may be intentional choices like assuming you know how to read music. Some are obvious mistakes, like the Am chord lesson not being included in the lessons flow, but other lessons referencing it like you already learned it. I would love more technique instruction too.” – 4/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

Timothy O'Tool: “Not a very intuitive design! Good reference material, and I haven't really found any inaccuracies, but I would prefer to see a scholarly notation, not a jazz notation, in chord names. That said, great for reference, but it doesn't really do anything. I needed a chord progression mapper, and this isn't it. I can find other apps that do the same. Just cumbersome.” – 3/5 in Play Store

Lloyd G.S: “I absolutely love it, I'm able to find all the chords I need even if I know a few notes only. While most use it for chord dictionary I actually wanted to use it for chord progressions, however I'm not too sure on how to use the chord progression part of the app. It's kinda confusing, with that being said I do think there should be videos on youtube or something like a tutorial going over the app in detail of all it can do. Especially on chord Progression. All in all it is a good app.” – 5/5 in Play Store

A Google user: “Very similar to yousician, except I like this app so much better. It doesn't let you move forward until you have perfected what you are playing. Can be frustrating but I needed that discipline because I've been all over the board trying to learn to play. Every day it gets a little easier. Plus the app sends me notifications reminding me too pick up my guitar and practice!” – 5/5 in Play Store

Vibrantly Blooming: “This app has helped a bit. The user interface is clean and easy to use. So far only noticing one issue: I can play a note/string correctly AND on time but it will show up as incorrect (tuned up decently as well.) I hope this will be solved soon. But it's a really great app overall, especially when a nice amount of content is available for free. It's enough to get you started.” – 4/5 in Play Store

A Google user: “Good idea if implemented properly. These developers still have a lot of ground to cover. An example: in the Arcade mode one needs to match notes on a piano keyboard. It works rather well for building memory associations. Unless, of course, they start asking for the notes outside the visible portion of the keyboard. Since sliding or zooming isn't an option, the app counts those as missed notes (and 3 of those means you lose).” – 2/5 in Play Store

Sharon M: “I took piano lessons years ago as a child. Forgot how to read sheet music, and now as an adult trying to re learn has been hard until I stumbled upon this app! It's fun, it builds up what you learn, it's well organized, and I feel like I am actually understanding how to read sheet music (so far, im still in treble cleft). Great app! I love that it was a 1 time purchase and wasn't crazy expensive, under 4 bucks! And, no adds! There were no advertisements before purchase or after!” – 5/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

Jeff Lanska: “Garbage. First of all, I received a free trial of this with a digital piano purchase, absolutely will NOT continue. Using the MIDI or sound interface it registers about 25% of my notes. Also, the audio lags behind the progress bar thus giving you wrong feedback when playing to the audio beat or music. Frustrating to say the least. Definitely will not purchase a subscription.” – 2/5 in Play Store

Kacey Byrd: “From what I can tell so far, this app is really helpful when learning to play piano. However, there is one terribly frustrating feature I need to address: The app only registers half the notes I play even though they are correct. I literally have my phone laying on the speaker and it still isn't working. I feel it would be a great app if not for this.” – 2/5 in Play Store
