Jeff Lee: “(2024 update) Bare bones and minimal. It has come a long way since my initial review in 2013, but seriously lacks as a go to note app. It's ok for a phone because it's quick and easy, and I still use it sometimes because of that, but Samsung and Apple are far superior even considering Google's integration with it's own products. And if your at looking for a real note taking app, this isn't it. This is just 1 step above a paper sticky note.” – 3/5 in Play Store

Laura Lynn: “To users: Get it. It's the best I've found so far. To creators: It's good but I'd really appreciate a lock on it. Yes, my phone locks but there will be times when someone is on my phone and I don't want them going through stuff. Also it'd be helpful to change the note backgrounds to custom images. Would make things much easier to distinguish at a glance. Another useful feature would be a button to "jump" past pinned notes. After a few years you end up with quite a bit of them.” – 3/5 in Play Store

Jasmine Egger: “Note app is great. I have been through myriads of note apps, and the options that they give you on the toolbar are awesome, and it organizes notes by dates; unless you select that you'd rather have them at the top priority. I did this on my new phone that I got, and the last I looked they were so out of order and out of date. It's probably (hopefully 😬) an easy fix 🤞 or I hope so. all-in-all? 9.9/10” – 5/5 in Play Store

Torri Thrower: “I love it honestly. I've tried other note taking apps and this one is my favorite still. It integrates well with my Future Adhd Planner (for all you neurodivergents out there, it's worth the $15 for a forever-planner) and Samsung notes is just easy and intuitive to use for me. It's simple, you can download extra templates if you want, text and handwriting all work well. I can't think of any real issues I have with it. Maybe more features? But nothing stands out.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

E: “Very useful. I used Evernote for years until it faltered greatly over the past few years. I moved over to OneNote and things have been great. There's definitely a learning curve and I miss the ability to tag notes but other than that, OneNote is great. One complaint. The Android app organizes notebooks in alphabetical order which is great. However, the desktop app does not. Makes it very hard to find notebooks on the desktop app when you have multiple notebooks open.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Nicholas Denes (Nick): “This thing has been buggy and just overall an unpleasant experience for years. Now my notes occasionally will have lines missing or scrambled in a random spot. I'm afraid to even look at my older notes now because I don't want to bug them out. Time for an alternative after not feeling this app for years but sticking around because I became so Microsoft integrated through the years (outlook, word, excel, etc).” – 2/5 in Play Store

Every time you open the app there's at least three or four advertisements you have to click through asking you to purchase the premium version before you can access your notes. The app used to be better, but their new marketing strategy is aggressive and annoying. Will be transitioning away.” – 2/5 in Play Store

A Google user: “Update to my original post: Here we are 10 years since first install and this app is the most rock solid app I've ever used. Passed from phone to phone over the years and never lost one "note". Easy to use, easy to navigate. It's kept up with every version of Android and each update has been one small improvement over another. Thanks for keeping it simple and reliable.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Rachelle Williams: “I love how you are able to color code the different topics of notes. You can have the notes in order by date or by color. The checklist feature allows you to create a checklist and then "mark things off" as you get through them. The app backs up to Google so switching devices is easy if you get a new phone. I've been using this app for years to keep up with my lists and notes. There's also a calendar feature that you can add events and reminders to as well.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Pros Very lightweight, simple to use, and doesn't require any installation.
Cons Lacks many of the features found in more advanced text editors, such as syntax highlighting, code completion, and version control.

Comments and Reviews from users:

Rush: “Very nice, basic note taking app. Works pretty well without major hiccups, and works with voice recognition too. The only thing is that since notes can get long pretty quickly, I wish there was a way to immediately go to the bottom of the note right away (when u open up any note, it starts from the top), but there isn't - you have to scroll manually all the way down. It can be tedious each time, so I wish they just added a button or something that lets u go from top to bottom at will.” – 4/5 in Play Store

Eric: “This app is absolutely perfect for me, and just what I needed. I wanted a "Diary" style journaling device for work in the sense that I need tabs, organization and customization. This app has all that. The Tab style compartment on the left keeps all your notes and segments tidy. You can color code them to your liking. The settings are simple and the app is quite minimalistic. I was actually kinda disappointed that there wasn't a paid version, or a version with additional features.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Cons The learning curve for Notion can be steep, and it can be difficult to navigate the app at first.

Comments and Reviews from users:

Ashley Gusler: “I really like the program-really. But the app leaves something to be desired. Specifically a way to view, and interact with, something in a widget, such as a database. I've created an actual daily to do list that will refresh daily based on what's in another part of the database and want to be able to have it on phone home screen. But I can't.” – 3/5 in Play Store

Davis Diercks: “Absolutely amazing... On every other platform. Been using Notion for many years, and it seems they simply don't prioritize the Android platform. I understand it's the most difficult to develop for, and that it's a very complex app, but... No other similar app has these bugs 😬 I've lost track of how many reports I've submitted, and every time a bug is fixed, another takes its place. My whole life is in this app, I love it to death, but they're making it hard to recommend for Android users 😅” – 3/5 in Play Store

Keira McIntyre: “It is a pretty decent app I would say. There isn't any distractions, no annoying adds, it is a good quality, and it has different choices, for instance, if u want to make a grocery list, boom, it has a checklist option, if u wanna make notes, or inform the app on what u are doing that day or week, than u can! I think it's a good app for making any type of notes. Its definitely a keeper.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Sundra: “Simple, easy and not confusing. Of all the onesbo tried this is one of the best. I recommend to add a color wheel for the color organizer portion of the app. I got a lot of stuff and that might make it easier. Better than that, maybe add dark and pastel versions of the colors you already have to make it easier. Thanks for the effort you guys pit in for the calendar and everything.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Cons Limited cloud support, no OCR, can be laggy on older devices.

Comments and Reviews from users:

A Google user: “I recently switched over to digital note taking for college and this app has allowed me to take even better notes than I could by hand. I use the Samsung galaxy Tab A 10.1 with S Pen (which I highly recommend as a cheaper work/school tablet), and the stylus support with button and finger tools allows me to never really worry about switching between tools, as it's all contained in one hand. There would definitely be a benefit if they allowed multiple device syncing, which they don't have yet. This hasn't held me back at all, though, so 5 stars right now! I do highly recommend upgrading to the premium if you plan on using this for class or work like I do. It's more than worth it for the price!” – 5/5 in Play Store

A Google user: “The PDF importing function needs to be more streamlined. Squid should take into account that many of the people using this app (especially, especially the paid version) have many PDFs to import at once. A multi import would be useful, as would a setting for default sorting of the PDF selection menu (instead of being sorted by name). Turning pages in a multi-paged PDF on tablet should also be more streamined. Currently, the button is small and I often tap the page selection button accidentally instead. Other than that, it's a great app.” – 4/5 in Play Store

A Google user: “I have tried many apps looking for an effective way to organize my life as well as my old day planner from the 1990's. This app does that and can do much MUCH more. I like to store screen shots from browsing under my "wish list" tab. Tabs are customizable so you can organize YOUR way. Also, you can password/fingerprint lock certain tabs, or the whole app. LOVE IT!” – 5/5 in Play Store

A Google user: “Like Google Keep but with a much better organized UI. The tabs, in addition to tags, makes this so easy to use. Works great with Chromebooks that use Android apps. In the few areas where Keep has an advantage (ex. reliable multi device synch) WeNote has a plan to address this. If synch is resolved and they get a web app I'm pretty much done with Keep. Devs are quick to respond to user concerns. Look forward to more cool things from the WeNote crew!” – 5/5 in Play Store

Erika Gunnerson: “It's okay. It does make a great app for planning out a story (that's what I'm mainly using the app for, but I may use it for other stuff). The basic templates are good if you wanna make notes of character names, title ideas, that stuff, and you can also put in pictures, which I would include a plot template image on one page. But it is a bit buggy at times. Nothing too frustrating but still mildly annoying, like text moves slightly to the left after tapping outside of the text box.” – 3/5 in Play Store

Misa: “Though there are lots of beautiful stickers and trmplates, There seems to be an issue with the app not able to draw straight lines despite having the "straight line" option enabled for brush, pen and gel pen. Additionally, the eraser just erases strokes instead of the area you intend to use it for. Please fix these issues as there are many other apps that will beat you in the note taking app completion” – 3/5 in Play Store

If I could request for an improvement I think it would be to improve the drawing, sketching and painting (maybe soon?) functionality. Lines are not rasterizing properly so it gets pixelated in zoom. If it helps any devs, may I recommend a great paint app to find some inspiration? Microsoft's 'Fresh Paint'. Thank you.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Jeff Johnson: “I was an Evernote user for years, until they decided to force everyone to pay $120 a year for a simple note taking app, so I researched and tried a ton of alternatives and eventually landed here. It's not perfect yet, but any issues I've had (such as the inability to view notebooks as a list rather than large thumbnails, and lack of automatic resorting of recently used notebooks) are relatively minor. Devs are responsive and helpful as well, and only 1/10 the cost of Evernote.” – 4/5 in Play Store

Cons May be too feature-rich for some users, occasional syncing issues

Comments and Reviews from users:

Ace: “Buying the full version has been absolutely worth it. This is easily the best note-taking app I've found for Android tablets. Each of the recent updates has included some great features to make it even better. One feature suggestion I would have is to have a setting to undo by tapping with two fingers or redo with three fingers on the screen simultaneously, like how many drawing apps have. It could be faster and more intuitive than pressing the undo and redo buttons in the toolbar.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Edgil Hector: “Overall, a great note taking app; probably the best substitute for Notability I could find on Android. Some stuff is still not as smooth, but it seems their updates continue to improve the experience. An "infinite page" functionality where a new page is automatically added when you get to the end of the current one and a good "search" function of hand-written text would be greatly appreciated. In the end, love the app and its value. One more thing that would be nice is a touch shortcut for undo.” – 4/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

Purpose1six: “I really wanted to love this app. I downloaded this app based off of a youtubers suggestion and tutorial. I even bought the VIP subscription. Well, I don't know if I got the broken version but this app is not working for me. There isn't an option to switch from edit mode to stylus mode ( not view only mode) so I can't tap on the page without leaving marks all over it. Every single time I tap on my hyperlinks to jump to another page, the app either crashes or sends me back the home page.” – 3/5 in Play Store

Merlynn: “I am looking for a better and perfect app that I can use for digital journaling until I see this app. So far, I like the features that it offers, especially the hyperlinks. My only concern here is the sticker feature, since I am using it for journaling, I want it to have a feature that you can import your own stickers. I also want it to have an adding tab feature like other taking notes app to make it lot easier to copy image from other PDFs using lasso tool.” – 4/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

S E: “Just installed the free version. I was looking for a note taking app with some features like setting a page background and allowing note taking with handwriting or text. Most important though for me is that the app does not share data, location etc. I rather pay for an app. The free version looks awesome, the features I tried are impressive and the pro version is not very expensive with approx $20 for lifetime, totally worth it. I will buy it.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Chris: “This app is absolutely exceptional. I have been on a quest to find a note app that allowed me to add images and write text in the same space and export to a PDF file. So that I can journal my gardening adventures. And I have finally found one. And so far, without even buying I have seen no annoying ads! I want to also mention one of the best features that should be mandatory for all apps. the option to purchase a "lifetime subscription" license. Comments and Reviews from users:

Lesley-Ann Knee: “Love this app and it's features especially now that it supports creating hyperlinks. I have been waiting for this feature for a long time. There are still a few bugs in the software where sometimes my handwriting has a difficulty erasing, but it doesn't happen often. I would love to see a feature where you can insert a comment in pdfs, and the comment is inserted without taking up space (pdfs don't have a lot of space to write on w/o writing on top of it) similar to Adobe, Xodo, or Goodnotes.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Rachel Greene: “Fantastic app! I am a college student (math major) and use this daily for note taking. There's many handy tools for math, such as custom graph templates. Also love the many paper options and importable paper. The app runs smoothly, and is able to handle many imported pictures or typed notes. Simple exports to Email. I would rank this app better than competitors, such as GoodNotes. Edit: Just when I thought it couldn't get any better- customizable stickers have been added! 6 stars! LOVE this app!” – 5/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

Kyle Perna: “Syncing and Google Sync has issues. I lost notes during the syncing process between my tablet and phone. Also, it doesn't truly backup your notes to Google Drive. Google Drive doesn't recognize the file type. Hopefully this is an easy fix. The add is good, but needs to become more reliable. I also wish you could collaborate with others.” – 3/5 in Play Store

Ashawnti Thomas: “So far, so good. I'm satisfied with the options and the free writing experience! Just a few things would make it better, like with highlight tool can we have the option to be able to bring the highlight behind the text and or picture would be wonderful. Keep up the great work developers!!! Can't wait for more awesome updates! New request can there be more options for different fonts when note takers like to type information! Would be a great addition!! Thanks Noteshelf! ♡” – 5/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

Zoe Kontak: “Overall, this app is amazing! I love the zoom in and out feature in the freewrite section. That being said, there are a few things I would like to be addressed. For one, sometimes when I am trying to reorder some things, the app freezes up, which is very unhelpful and stressful mid-lecture. Sоmething I would like to see added would be zoom in on the notebook pages as well, and maybe some different fonts. Last thing would be being able to open noebooks side by side for easier note rewrites.” – 4/5 in Play Store

Jennifer Anderson: “I originally purchased on Apple iOS 3 years ago and now that I'm back with Android, had to buy again. I've used this in my training courses for years. I take notes quickly and it transcribes everything to perfectly readable text, minus the occasional wrong word which I attribute to my handwriting. It has a tough time distinguishing between the / and the gesture to create a space. Wish it had Notability recording that syncs to the written notes option.” – 4/5 in Play Store
